Currently a major name in manga publishing, I first knew of TokyoPop because of their crazy "hey, would you like to by stuff that we found in someone else's moving truck?" sales, where they would apparently lose money on odd manga issues and DVD sets to increase sales of the rest of the series'. They used to lurk outside of AX, offering cheap promos to get otaku to remember their name - like annoying "squishy ball on a string" and other cheap toys. It was the first place I bought any significant amount of anime-stuff.
