Minna no Manga Jan 28 2010

Minna no Manga meets this Thursday from 6-10 PM in Room 10-220.

I'm sure you all know this by now, but I'll mention it for the sake of tradition: Minna no Manga is your source for all your sitting-in-a-classroom-doing-geeky-things needs! Please stop by if you feel the urge to congregate with your fellow nerdy masses, "congregate" here meaning participating in Fanime skit practice, eating questionable food form campus market, or simply watching what other people are doing and living vicariously through them. Yeah. Minna no Manga is where the winners hang out!

Speaking of winning, I am once more obligated to insert some T-shirt contest information (copy and pasted for your enjoyment): "Entries will be due on the 20th of February, so everyone has a little more than a month to get their design finished. Once again, from a previous email: "The picture will be placed on the back, and it can have 4 colors plus the shirt color. For available shirt colors, please see this site: http://www.hanesbullseye.com/Catalog/MoreInformation/easycolor.aspx Please note that your design must allude to "Minna no Anime" in some way, such as a "Minna" kanji or "Minna no Anime" in Japanese, Romanji or some combination of them. The front will feature the Minna no Anime logo...if you choose not to design the logo yourself, the regular old official logo will be placed there instead."

It's raining again. Color me surprised.

I would link you to a potentially mental-scarring video, but I've already released that particular horror to all my followers on Twitter. I don't feel quite that cruel tonight. Instead, have video of a man treating his cat like his cat treats him: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1916661

Be kind to animals.

Today I napped, and it was good. It is the best way to lose a few hours of your life.

We are already halfway through the second quarter. I am astounded and frightened by this fact.

I have once more run dry in terms of funny things to say. It had to happen at some point. I hope all you people have some way of consoling yourselves.

...My roommate just turned on the heater again. Sigh. This is going to be a long night for

Minna no Manga Feb 11 2010

Minna no Manga meets this Thursday from 6-10 PM in Room 10-220.
I hope everyone knows what goes on at Minna no Manga by now...but if not, let me just say this: Epic poems. Plus skit practice.

I HAVE MORE ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR YOU GUYS. Try to suppress your enthusiasm.

First, our tried and true friend, the T-Shirt Contest: "Entries will be due on the 20th of February, so everyone has a little more than a month to get their design finished. Once again, from a previous email: "The picture will be placed on the back, and it can have 4 colors plus the shirt color. For available shirt colors, please see this site: http://www.hanesbullseye.com/Catalog/MoreInformation/easycolor.aspxPlease note that your design must allude to "Minna no Anime" in some way, such as a "Minna" kanji or "Minna no Anime" in Japanese, Romanji or some combination of them. The front will feature the Minna no Anime logo...if you choose not to design the logo yourself, the regular old official logo will be placed there instead."

Next, Open House. Open House this year will be on Saturday, April 17. Our theme this year is Gundam, both for cosplay and both decoration. At Open House, what we usually do is try to interest incoming freshmen in joining Minna no Anime. We sell food (such as chicken skewers, rice, and drinks) that we make ourselves and we usually display figures or manga or something on a different table. Many people usually cosplay characters from the series we decided on, and we modify our booth as well. The past few years, we've had themes like "One Piece" (where we turned the booth into the pirate ship the "Going Merry") and "Baccano" (In which we transformed the booth into the "Flying Pussyfoot.) Last year, our theme was "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann" and our booth was made to resemble the Dai-Gurren. All of these were made mostly out of cardboard. We are probably going to have some booth building activities in the near future, so BE READY. Or something.

Officer Elections are also coming up! The elections for next year's officers are going to be held the week before Open House, on April 10. The available positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Librarian. If you want a hand in selecting next year's shows or being part of club in a more assertive way, think about vying for one of these positions~

Finally, the quarterly Goshi dinner! Sign-ups for this dinner will be on Feb 26. The dinner itself will be on March 14, also known as the Sunday before finals.

THAT SHOULD BE IT. Yaaaay. Oh, hey! Guess what? IT RAINED TODAY. WHAT A COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED AND SURPRISING TURN OF EVENTS.

Minna no Manga Feb 25 2010

Minna no Manga meets this Thursday from 6-10 PM in Room 10-220.

Fanime practice, chilling with you bros, etc. It is a time of zen.

You may notice that it is now Wednesday and not Tuesday. Well, the facts are that I forgot about sending the MnM email yesterday (wow, that's two weeks in a row. What's wrong with me?) because I was completely engrossed in playing Ace Attorney: Investigations. Yes, I became so distracted by a game featuring pink prosecutors and jailbait sidekicks that I could think of nothing else that entire day. Go ahead, hate me forever. I care not. I have my lawyer games to comfort me.

Announcements~ Everyone's favorite part of the email.

Goshi dinner: Sign-ups for this dinner will be on Feb 27. The dinner itself will be on March 14, also known as the Sunday before finals. Minna no Manga Mar 11 2010

Minna no Manga meets this Thursday from 6-10 PM in Room 10-220.

There will be Fanime Practice. There will be horrible jokes. There will be laptops. And now you know.

Sorry for the late email, guys! When I started trying to log into the Cal Poly account, it was still Tuesday...Cal Poly just did not want to cooperate.

ANYWAY

FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT A T-SHIRT: orders must be placed before spring break. However, if we don't get at least 15 pre-orders we won't order the shirts. I think the price is 15 dollars if you're not a member, and 12 dollars if you are? Don't quote me on this.

Goshi dinner: If you haven't sent in your Goshi order by now, you should. Or I will cut you. The money is due this Saturday at club. The dinner itself will be on March 14, also known as the Sunday before finals. After you sign up, we collect your orders so that when we go to Goshi's the staff will be ready for us. At Goshi's we socialize and have a good time before the misery of final's week.

Open House: "Open House this year will be on Saturday, April 17. Or something."

Officer Elections: "The elections for next year's officers are going to be held the week before Open House, on April 10. The available positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Librarian. If you want a hand in selecting next year's shows or being part of club in a more assertive way, think about vying for one of these positions~"

Spring 2010

Minna no Manga Apr 1 2010

I have absolutely no clue what room MnM is in this quarter, I will send everybody an email once I find out.

Other than that, I think standard Minna no Manga messages go here. I think these might become "work on the booth" nights once we get the booth put together and up in SLO, but we might be doing some Minna no Sweatshop work even before then. I don't know, I'll let you guys know if anything changes.

Open House: "Open House this year will be on Saturday, April 17. Our theme this year is Gundam, both for cosplay and both decoration. I hope everyone had a nice spring break. Now we're back at school again... I have some good classes and a mold infestation in my pantry. Did those two things belong in the same sentence? You be the judge.

Man, Heroman is awesome. It's like Spiderman and Giant Robo had a foursome with Studio BONES and Stan Lee, and Heroman was the wonderful abomination that was brought into being from that union.

Minna no Open House Prep Apr 15 2010

I guess MnM can meet this week...but nobody cool will be there.

 Instead, Open House prep!

This Thursday, if you are willing, please meet at Erika's church at 6 PM to help "practice" chicken cutting, etc. Contact Erika for directions if you need them, or find someone else who does. Rides are also up to you.

Chicken prep is a proud Minna no Anime tradition and we hope that you will take part in it.

Also, we would love it if people were able to let us borrow any of these useful items: (large) rice cooker, misc. cooking utensils, or even grills and grill tools if you have them. If you can, please reply back to this email (I'll check it, I swear) with what you can let us borrow! That would be swell, super, etc. Open house is a team effort! It helps us recruit more people to join in our bizarre Japanese cartoon cult.

And, as a reminder, during Open House itself you should wear a club "uniform": either cosplay in accordance with our theme (Gundam) or wear a MnA club T-shirt. It's not that difficult. Show some solidarity, people.

One last note: We may or may not still need donations for the MnA banner. If you feel you can contribute to helping us out (we're poor) please contact Brandon at brchow@calpoly.edu.

Please help us out! We're not much of a club if we don't have members...

Also, sorry this email is so late. My computer has been doing...weird things...today. I blame homework.

Minna no Open House Apr 17 2010

Minna no Anime will not take place this week. Instead, we are going to be manning our Open House booth for the majority of Saturday.

First of all, thanks to everyone who came to help with chicken cutting etc. tonight! You guys are the Coolest.

Tomorrow (Friday) we will need some help setting up the booth in its assigned spot. The location of our booth will be in spaces 15 and 16 in the parking lot between Ag Science and Engineering IV. It's also right across from the Kennedy Library bus stop. If you're confused, look at the Cal Poly map here: http://www.maps.calpoly.edu/flashmap/CalPolyMap.html We're somewhere in the pink/green space.

Now, if people could meet at that spot tomorrow at about 5:30 PM and help us set up the booth, we would be much obliged and you would win brownie points. It takes a team effort in order to get the booth off a truck and on the ground with everything in place, we also need to drill and do other things to it. Please aid us in this endeavor!

For Saturday, the actual day of Open House, we need people to help transport the Gundam and cardboard and things. For that, meet at Erika and Mikael's house at 6 AM. Once we have that stuff on campus, we need help getting it attached to the booth, etc. so if you cannot make it to Erika's but still want to help with that, try to get to the booth space at 6:30 AM. From then until 10 AM, we will be getting everything set up and ready for the "official" start of Open House.

This is where the majority of volunteers come in! We have a lot of jobs people can help with, including overseeing rice cooking, skewering chicken, grilling chicken, or even just talking with interested people and advertising our club. If you're there for 3 hours, you get free food from us!

Sale of food stops at 4 PM, and the hours of 5 PM and 6 PM will consist of the clean-up and take-down of the booth. It's a very liberating process.

We need people for both the morning and afternoon, so if you feel that you cannot work the entire day, please try to help us for at least part of the time! Open House is pretty much our biggest money-maker, and as we are becoming increasingly poor as a club, we need the profits.

REMEMBER: Please wear a MnA shirt or cosplay if you are working at the booth. If you don't want to cosplay or don't have a club t-shirt, hand over 7 or 5 dollars and we can sell you an older t-shirt design from past years. Solidarity, man.

I think that's all...please be a Cool Person and hep us out at Open House.

Minna no Manga Apr 22 2010

Minna no Manga meets this Thursday from 6-10 PM in Room 10-221.

Yes, Minna no Manga! A place where nerds gather together and...do stuff. IDK. Remember to go there for FANIME SKIT PRACTICE or OTHER PEOPLE or GETTING OUT OF YOUR DORM/APARTMENT/HOUSE/MOTHER'S BASEMENT

We're finally done with Open House~ hurray! In case you haven't heard, we won ~*Best Ethnic Food*~ and sold out without having to lower our prices! IT WAS AMAZING. Thanks again to everyone who helped out, whether it was working on the booth, helping with the food (including loaning equipment), or even just showing up to do random jobs. WAY TO BE AWESOME.

Well, now that we've elected officer and are done with Open House, I can't think about any announcements to make. I'm sure this will change shortly, but for now I'll just appreciate their absence.

Now to write a paper...in French. How fun.

Anyway, we're back to the normal state of things; no Open House, no officer elections or T-Shirt contests, etc. I hope everyone manages to keep themselves entertained.

I guess I could put a disturbing youtube video link here, or maybe start referencing cartoon shows from the 1990's, but I'm tired. I'm sure everyone can make up their own culturally-out-of-date references; I believe in you guys.

Minna no Manga Apr 29 2010

Minna no Manga meets this Thursday from 6-10 PM in Room 10-221.

If you're in the skit group, be there. If you're bored, be there. If you enjoy showing bizarre videos to your friends only to be horribly judged thanks to your strange taste in entertainment...be there.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING FANIME ROOMS:

For those who already have or wish to be in one of our hotel rooms for Fanime, please see this post on the MnA Forum (http://minnanoanime.invisionplus.net/?mforum=minnanoanime&showtopic=164&st=0&#entry2765) and scroll down to the interest list made by Juli (jujusensei). If you have already signed up for a room, you should already be on that list. If you would like to be added or removed from that list, they should send an email to jujusensei@gmail.com as soon as possible because the room deposit amount changes with the amount of people staying in the hotel room.

Everyone has until May 22nd (four MnA meetings from now) to make their payment (a full deposit) in either check or cash. Checks should be made payable to "Andy Richardson." In the "Financial Notes" section of the forum post I linked, the amount of money each person must deposit is listed in bold. (However, if people are added or removed from a room, the deposit amounts will probably change.) Note: if you invite more friends to stay (particularly applicable to girls), the room deposit $ will go down significantly.

If you are out of town and need to make a deposit, there's a mailing address listed in the forum reply as well.

Any questions/comments can be answered in that forum thread, or by e-mail at jujusensei@gmail.com

The end! :D

I was so focused on trying to make sense of 17th century English grammar that I almost forgot to send the email. In my defense, it's important.

We're wrapping up a lot of our shows! If you don't count the OVA, this is the last episode of Darker than BLACK and Eden of the East only has one more episode left! I guess that's how you know it's the end of the school year (if you don't count summer quarter.) Therefore, I would really recommend not missing these last weeks because chances are you might miss the conclusion of your favorite show. IT WOULD BE TRAGIC.

Also, everyone should come to Fanime and watch our dance group's skit. It has flashy choreography and bread puns! Deep in your soul, you know you need that in your life.

I guess I've just fulfilled my monthly quota of pimping things out.

Wowzers, Emma, Flag, and Eden of the East are all ending this week. DO NOT MISS THIS MEETING IF YOU VALUE THESE SHOWS. Remember, we won't be meeting next Saturday because of Fanime, so this is last meeting before...our last meeting. Huh.

Please pay attention to the announcements, they are important. LA FIN.
