in room 3-213, Manga meeting 10/6

It seems we cross paths once again, Minna. The days are dwindling ever closer to that shining first day of school,
and with that, we also hurtle forward toward an even brighter star in the sky: the first meeting of Minna no Anime
2016!

Without further ado, let me introduce this year’s anime schedule:

5:10 PM: Simulcast of the Week
5:35 PM: Inari Kon Kon (Fall Quarter) / Sound! Euphonium (Winter-Spring Quarters)
6:00 PM: 10-Minute Break
6:10 PM: Mushi-shi: The Next Passage (Fall-Winter Quarters) / ~~Mystery OVAs~~ (Spring Quarter)
6:35 PM: Yona of the Dawn
7:00 PM: Dinner Break
8:05 PM: Shirobako
8:30 PM: Ping Pong the Animation (Fall-Winter Quarters) / Hourou Musuko Wandering Son (Winter-Spring Quarters)

9:30 PM: Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Fall-Winter Quarters) / Erased (Winter-Spring Quarters)
9:55 PM: End of Meeting

Get-Together Meeting: Saturday 9/24, 5-10PM, Room 3-213
Tired from moving in and the first few days of school? Come take a break with us at the meeting before the real
meeting on September 24th, 5-10PM, in room 3-213! This meeting’s format will be a bit special: pick from 21 shows
to watch in club. There are only six show slots though, so choose wisely! The list of anime will be revealed at
5PM, and then members will have 30 minutes to choose what first episodes of shows will be viewed that night. From
8:05-8:30 PM, the slot right after Dinner Break, we’ll have some low-key Anime Trivia for you all, so make sure to
come back from dinner in time for the festivities!

Club Showcase: Sunday 9/25
Help Minna meet and recruit incoming students! Show off how awesome and anime we are at our booth during Week of
Welcome’s Club Showcase on Sunday, September 25th. If you’d like to help out, bring some of your anime swag to
display on the table (please keep it PG), talk about the club to interested students, or just swing on by! We’ll
have more information about the location and exact time in the coming weeks.

First Meeting with New Anime Lineup: Saturday 10/1, 5-10PM, Room 3-213
The lineup we have for this year will actually begin on Saturday, October 1st, from 5-10PM in room 3-213. The
Simulcast of the Week will be replaced with a round of Anime Eyes, a “guess the anime character!” type of game.
The image of the character will start off pixelated and slowly resolve until you can fully see the character.
Audience members shout out what character they think is on the screen! Then, starting at 5:35 PM, we’ll jump right
into the anime watching shenanigans~

Discussion Room: Saturdays 5-10PM, Room 3-114, Starting 9/24
The Discussion Room will be back for all your discussing, homework, and funtime needs in room 3-114! It runs at the
same time as the Saturday meetings, from 5-10PM. It will be available for use starting the September 24th meeting.

Minna no Manga: Thursday, 10/6, 6-10PM, Room TBD
It’s fun watching a boatload of anime on Saturdays, but sometimes we all just want to relax, play some games, and
talk with each other… about anime, of course! Minna no Anime’s social meeting, called Minna no Manga, meets on
Thursdays
from 6-10PM starting on October 6th. The room will be announced a bit closer to when school starts.

Descriptions of Shows
Want a little rundown of what we’re watching this year? Here are some “quality” descriptions I came up
with myself :^)

Simulcast of the Week
Each week, members vote online for an anime from Crunchyroll to watch during this time slot! The first
simulcast to be shown this year will be at the October 8th Saturday meeting.

Inari Kon Kon
When Inari saves an animal from falling into a river, a Shinto goddess grants her one wish as thanks. However,
wishes always come with consequences… but that doesn’t mean life can’t be fun and romantic along the way!

Sound! Euphonium
Always wanted to know how high school band was like? This anime will answer those questions while
cranking the drama up to 11—which, to be fair, was like high school band. Let’s be real here.

Mushi-shi: The Next Passage
Mysterious creatures called Mushi exist all around us, but only a few humans can see them now. This
episodic, touching show follows Ginko as he helps those affected by Mushi. Please note that this is the
second season to Mushi-shi, but due to the series’ episodic and nonlinear storytelling, you can watch either
season’s episodes in any order.

~~Mystery OVAs~~

(The officers will announce what the OVAs are closer to the end of Mushi-shi: The Next Passage.)

Yona of the Dawn
When Princess Yona is evicted from her kingdom during a coup d'état, she finds resolve to rebuild her
kingdom and take back the land that belonged to her father. Expect political intrigue, cute romance, and
fantastical magic in this 24 episode drama!

Shirobako
Just another day at the office, doing some hectic, stress-inducing work... checking an animation sequence?!
Shirobako follows a group of recent high school graduates as they navigate the tricky world of Japanese
animation and voice acting.

Ping Pong the Animation
Ping Pong the Animation is an avant-garde anime about two high schoolers, Peco and Smile, who both excel
at the sport but, due to their own personalities, struggle to understand their own levels of prowess at it. Expect
interesting, artsy ping pong-ing and a varied cast of characters. Also, real Mandarin in this, you guys. It’s real
stuff.

Hourou Musuko Wandering Son
This slice of life show delicately and beautifully follows Shuichi and Takatsuki’s lives from the beginning of 7th
grade to 9th grade as they deal with all the things that come with being a middle schooler as well as exploring
their genders and discovering their identities.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans
Child soldiers are ordered to protect the Martian noble Kudelia from harm while she visits Earth to gain
independence for her city from Earthians. In order to fully protect her, one of the squads has a special weapon
up their sleeve: the legendary Gundam Barbatos.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica
You like moe character designs? You like magical girl anime? Well, buddy, let me tell you, you’ll find both in this
anime, but at a price… a dark and twisted one. Puella Magi Madoka Magica deconstructs the magical girl anime
trope to a T and was an acclaimed hit by both Western and Eastern fans when it debuted. It’s time to make a
contract! Please be warned that content in this show may not sit well for some viewers, and so it’s in the last
time slot.

Erased
Satoru has the ability to travel slightly back in time to save the lives of others. But when someone close to him
gets killed, his ability triggers, taking him farther in time than he has ever gone: 18 years back into the body of
his elementary school self! This murder mystery thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat as Satoru tries
to solve the death of a loved one. Please be warned that content in this show may not sit well for some viewers,
and so it’s in the last time slot.

I hope this news has whet your appetite a little bit for what Minna no Anime will offer this school year. Have any
questions, comments, or concerns? Please email minna-no-anime@minnanoanime.org and we’ll get back to you!

Your faithful secretary,

Phyllis Douglas
2016-2017 Minna no Anime Secretary

with a sweet, nice round of Anime Eyes.

Home Football Game on Saturday
There’s a football game this Saturday, so if you’re driving to campus, it might be difficult to find parking. I’d
suggest coming to club earlier than usual to get primo parking! The parking lot in between the library and the
Math/Science building is usually free. Almost any other parking lot costs money though...

Club Showcase: Sunday September 25th, 7:30AM–3PM

our October 1st meeting and beyond, please meet us at the H16 Parking Lot any time from 7:30AM to 3PM. Setup
time is from 7:30AM–10AM, WOWees will show up from 10AM–1PM, and then clean-up is from 1PM to 3PM. If

cosplay, or other anime-esque clothes. You can optionally bring anime paraphernalia to adorn our info table—
please keep it PG!

First Minna no Manga Meeting: Thursday October 6th, 6–10PM
Our first Manga meeting will be in about two weeks on October 6th, 6–10PM. The room is still TBD, so check
next week’s email for the room number!

AAAHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH FIRST MEETING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Okay, okay. I’m done with that. Yeah.
NO I’M NOT AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Okay, for realsies. I’m done. Yeah. Yeah. Uh-huh. I’m
pretty excited about the line-up we got this year, you guys. It’s pretty good in my opinion, I say, as if I wasn’t
one of the officers who helped make the line-up :^)
But real talk, we have some series in there that are critically acclaimed, like Erased, Puella Magi Madoka Magica,
and Mushi-shi. And then we’ve got our mecha show of the year—lookin’ at you, Iron-Blooded Orphans... *does
a wink and double pistols*

What I’m real excited about though: Sound! Euphonium. I was in marching band for seven years of my life, and
yeah, I wasn’t playing an instrument (I spun and threw flags, rifles, and sabers), but that show is like… reliving
your band experience in high school or college. A lot of the stuff they do, like the character personalities, the
practices, the difficulty of the pieces—that’s pretty close to the real experience, I’m not gonna lie. Also,
something happens about a little over halfway through the show that Pertains to My Interests, so… hehehe…………..

One day you’ll see what I’m talking about,

[Minna no Anime] Help Out at Club Showcase 9/25/2016

TL;DR Club Showcase 9/25 7:30AM–3PM in spot B14 in H16 Parking Lot, setup: 7:30–10AM, main event: 10AM–1PM,
cleanup: 1PM–3PM

Yo yo yo,

Club Showcase is fast approaching on Sunday, September 25th! Minna no Anime’s booth will be located in spot
B18 in the H16 Parking Lot. Club Showcase is a way for our anime club to meet new, incoming students to Cal Poly
and invite them to join us for next Saturday’s meeting! Mayhaps a way to get… new members? Wowee!

If you’d like to help out, please join us at our booth anytime from 7:30AM to 3PM wearing cosplay, a club T-shirt,
or something that is anime-related. You can also bring anime paraphernalia to adorn our info table, but please
keep it PG!

Schedule:
Setup: 7:30AM–10AM
Help set up the canopy, info table, and chairs! You can even bring over some delicious breakfast foods to keep
the helpers’ tummies nice and warm. If you’re going to be moving things in via car we’re allowed to move things
in from 7:30AM - 8PM.
Main Event: 10AM–1PM
Chat with new (and potentially current!) Cal Poly students about how awesome Minna no Anime is. Invite them
to join us at our Saturday meeting on October 1st from 5-10PM in room 3-213.
Cleanup: 1PM–3PM
Help collapse the canopy, info table, and chairs! You can even bring over some delicious lunch foods— ah wait,
no. We really need people to help with this part and not food, haha. Ha… *sweats a bit because she wants
lunch food*
Parking
Please note that if you’ll be driving to campus to help us out, you’ll probably have a hard time finding parking on
campus. Please arrive a bit earlier than you expect to find a good parking spot! 👍
I’m pretty excited for this weekend. Hope to see you guys there!

Tomorrow marks the first day Minna no Anime’s 2016–2017 schedule begins! Join us in the Silo, room 3-213,

Instead of Simulcast of the Week, we’ll play a round of Anime Eyes, a game where you guess the anime character
given a pixelated image of a character. Just yell out the character from your seat and see how many you can
guess! Simulcast of the Week will start next week’s Saturday meeting, and voting for which show gets chosen
will start on Wednesday.

First Thursday Meeting: October 6th, 6–10PM, Room 22-210 (English Building)
Wanna have a time to relax and socialize with other club members? Our first Thursday meeting starts on October
6th from 6 to 10PM in room 22-210 (English building). Come at any time and play some card games, watch anime,
or have a place to do your homework!

Rant
Who knew you could throw out your back at 25-years-old. Well, at least people can buy me Goshi and bring it to
my house :^)

...Okay, I only played that card on Wednesday since it was my birthday. I’ll go to Goshi on my own when I’m better!

Thinking about the day I can order off the specials menu from Goshi again,

[Minna no Manga] First Thursday Meeting 10/6/16

TL;DR MnM in room 22-210 6–10PM, vote for Simulcast of the Week, Halloween Party on Saturday 10/29 10AM–10PM

Citizens of this Earth,

It seems that our first Thursday meeting is closing in fast! Our first Minna no Manga meeting is tomorrow, Thursday
October 8th, in room 22-210 in the English building. The Thursday meetings are club’s social meetup, so from
6–10PM, enjoy card games, board games, anime, and homework (okay, you’re not really “enjoying” homework
most of the time, but you can work on it at the meeting too~), or bring some manga and share it with club members!
This is a relaxed, freeform environment where anyone can join us at anytime during those four hours. Take a
break from college and have some fun!

These emails for the Thursday meetings will be written by a different Minna no Anime officer each week — I hope
you’ll enjoy them~

Vote for the Simulcast of the Week
Coming to club on Saturday? Vote for the Simulcast of the Week, which will be shown during the 5:10–5:35
timeslot. Using the link provided, pick a show — club will play the first episode of whichever anime got the most
votes! In the following weeks, you’ll get the opportunity to vote on the next episode of the show if you like, or
you can vote on an entirely different anime. But if there are not enough votes for a particular show or episode,
it’ll drop off the list in a couple of weeks! *gasp* What will appear onscreen? Come to club this Saturday at 5PM to
find out!

Halloween Party: Saturday 10/29 from 10AM to 10PM
It’s getting a little chilly around here… It must be because the ghosts have come out to play for Halloween! And
just like the ghosts, Minna no Anime likes to celebrate the holiday with a party filled with games and prizes. Join
us on October 29th anytime from 10AM to 10PM for a day filled with contests, a quiz, games, and karaoke! Around
6PM, we’ll have pizza delivered for dinner. If you’d like more information on the schedule and what prizes and
games will be available, an email will be going out soon with the complete details! If you have any questions though,
please email us at minna-no-anime@minnanoanime.org.

Rant
Aahh, I’m so happy that The Ancient Magus’ Bride has an OVA series!
((https://www.crunchyroll.com/the-ancient-magus-bride)) The manga is so beautiful, touching, and at times scary
that I always wondered when the anime would finally air. I also really enjoyed that for the OVA, it’s the main
character’s backstory on what happened in Japan before she moved to England, which hasn’t been fully touched
on in the manga. Though, of course… I’d love to see more of England and all the magical fairies and creatures
that are in that part of the world, colored and animated to their full creepiness and beauty.

If you enjoy fantastical creatures and slow-paced but calming series, I’d really suggest reading The Ancient Magus’
Bride. I would liken it to Natsume’s Book of Friends or Mushi-shi — it’s in the same vein as those two series, but
rather than a focus on youkai or bug spirits, it focuses more on English fantasy creatures, like fairies, banshees,
dragons, and more! It can get a bit dark though, so be prepared for some scary stuff.

Wishes she could see fairies too,

TL;DR MnA in room 3-213 5–10PM, Discussion Room in 3-114, vote for Simulcast of the Week, Halloween Party 10/29

Ready for Round 2? Minna no Anime is back again this week, this time with the second episodes of shows we watched last
week! Join us tomorrow, October 8th, in room 3-213 in the Business building from 5 to 10PM for a collection of anime
that will put a smile on your face, invoke feelings of fear, anger, or possibly deep and utter despair! Upupupu~ If
there’s just too much feeling going on for you, you’re welcome to join others in the Discussion Room, located in
room 3-114 just across from the main club room. In the past, people have used that room to do homework, discuss
anime, or play games. It’s similar to club’s social meetings on Thursdays in that respect.

Starting this week is Simulcast of the Week; vote for an anime to show in club that’s currently airing in Japan or
hasn’t been shown in Minna no Anime! Whichever anime gets the most votes will have its first episode shown in
club tomorrow. Next week, you can then vote for that anime’s next episode or choose a new show — you decide!

If you’d like to catch up on last week’s episodes, Inari Kon Kon and Ping Pong the Animation are on Funimation, and
all other shows are on Crunchyroll. If you need help, email us at minna-no-anime@minnanoanime.org and we’ll provide
support!

We had a potluck at work on Wednesday. Our HR person organized the whole thing and asked a bunch of us to
bring stuff in. She wanted me to make “Anime Fried Rice” (what is that, I don’t know) and make sure that there
were anime characters in it (how do??? what????), so I just made fried rice. …Okay, I made it a little fancier than
just “fried rice”, I attempted… pineapple fried rice.

<<Picture of a hallowed out pineapple with rice in it and chunks of pineapple on top>>

It doesn’t look that bad, right? Well, I may have had… deviated from the recipe I was using… and perhaps forgotten
that I had garlic and dumped it raw on top of the rice… and there might have been a hole where the leaves
connected to the fruit… and maybe I just kept added white pepper without tasting to know when to stop adding pepper…

This rice had some kick to it, which was enjoyed by a few, but it was very difficult for me to eat it without drinking
lots of water, haha.

I am a mediocre cook who is better at making food look nice than tasting nice,

[Minna no Anime] Another Thursday 10/13/16

TL;DR MnM this Thursday in room 22-210 6–10PM, vote for Simulcast of the Week, soccer game this Saturday, Halloween
Party on Saturday 10/29 10AM–10PM

Hey y’all,

Do you ever get tired of the constant stress and deadlines of your 4–7 year journey towards educational
enlightenment and meaningful employment? Or, do you find yourself wishing one evening that you could enjoy
yourself by accomplishing nothing of significance and just unwind, only to discover that you’re missing a group of
fun people to share your lack of productivity with? Or perhaps you want to get a headstart on that big project that’s
due next week but want a change of scenery from your dorm room? No matter your circumstances, the fine folk at
Minna no Anime have the solution for you! This (and every) Thursday, we will hold a 4-hour session of socialization,
board games, card games, and more for all of you to enjoy. This lovely event that we call Minna no Manga will
happen from 6–10 PM in Room 22-210, in the English Building. I hope to see you all there!

As we mentioned in last week’s email, these midweek messages will now be brought to you by a rotating pool of
officers. Last week was Phyllis, our super sentai secretary! <<https://imgur.com/ZgdPyIr>> This week is Isaac,
the mysterious presidential persona known in some dark circles as “The Cat King”. Who could it be next week?
Only time will tell! (Pretty sure it’s gonna be the VP, Brian.)

Also, everyone going to the meeting on Saturday should be aware that there’s another soccer game this week, so
expect crowds and parking shenanigans near the stadium.

Vote for the Simulcast of the Week
As part of our normal Saturday meetings, we hand over the reigns of our anime stagecoach to our members, who
decide what to watch during our 5:10 slot. Anyone can vote, as long as they’re on the mailing list. The voting roster
typically includes the first episodes of various shows that have aired recently, so it’s a great way to check out stuff
you might be interested in. Or, if we watch something and you really like it, you can vote to watch the next
episode instead. Here’s the link.

Halloween Party: Saturday 10/29 from 10AM to 10PM
What do you do if it’s only two days until Halloween and you just can’t wait any longer to begin the festivities?
Why, you go to our anime-tastic Halloween Party! It’ll be a fun-filled 12 hours of cosplay, trivia, Anime Eyes (that
game we played Day 1), video games, karaoke, and more! There’ll even be prizes for our talented winners! Stay
tuned for more details.

Yours truly,
Isaac Cameron
Minna no Anime President

Rant
So I’m taking ARCH 551 this quarter, which is an architecture studio for master’s students. As an ARCE, I haven’t had
a studio since my first year at Cal Poly and that one was really abstract because most of us didn’t really know how
to school yet and I had no clue how structures worked. But anyways, my first schoolwork of the year was for this studio
and I was researching the history of water tanks for a presentation we had to give. Seems easy, right? Well it turns out
that not too many people really care about the history of water tanks, so finding relevant information was really difficult.
Like someone wrote a scholarly book about the Indus Valley Civilization that was hundreds of pages long and
somewhere in the middle of it they were like “Yeah, so there was this spot where there was this irrigation and there’s a
decent possibility that there was a clay water tank there”. And that was pretty much it. The only other people who cared
were the ones who had businesses selling water tanks and wanted to sound like their company was continuing some sort
of legacy, so they’d give a focused history about water tanks that would subtly bash on all the other kinds and then talk
about how they started, at which point any information afterwards was nearly worthless.

Anyways, after a couple days of me being obsessed with water tanks, my pal Curtis (the Treasurer) realized something
was wrong with me because no person should care this much about the history of such a thing, even though they’re super
interesting and elegant and vital to our success as a species. But we figured that this water tank thing would pass as soon
as I gave the presentation and I would go back to learning about some form of architecture that would leave fewer people
saying “Lol, wut?” when I tell them how I spend my afternoons. We couldn’t have been more wrong.

You see, my professors then spring a surprise field trip on us a couple days later and I go to Tiburon. There, lo and
behold, stands a giant, rusted, old steel water tank on a hilltop and now we’re apparently going to be spending the next
two quarters making it more interesting than an empty steel cylinder with a roof on top. Now my days are spent filling
soda bottles with plaster and water balloons and pretending that they’re water tanks and that I’m somehow finding the form
for this revolutionary new design we’re doing.

Anyways, it’s getting late, my roommate’s trying to sleep through the sound of my keyboard clacking away, and I
really need to take my recent forays into the sun paths that cause a water tower in Tiburon to cast shadows onto an empty
parking lot in Tiburon and then put that information into a powerpoint to present to other people who also spend way too
much time thinking about water tanks. See you all on Thursday.

[Minna no Anime] Overlords' Saturday 10/15/16

TL;DR MnA in room 3-213 5–10PM, Discussion Room in 3-114, soccer game this Saturday, vote for Simulcast
of the Week, Halloween Party 10/29

It’s there, in my heart, that desire to watch the entertainment that we call anime… It’s calling me!! The pain, AUGH!
It sears my body with absolute desire for crudely animated boys swinging ping pong rackets, I can see it in my
mind’s eye! RAAAUUGH another vision: a girl who can transform with an adorable phrase to save the day, too much
cuteness! So much pain in my chest... There’s only one way to relieve this pain… Minna no Anime-sama, I implore
you! Let me come to your meeting tomorrow from 5–10PM in room 3-213 on your beautiful campus at Cal Poly San
Luis Obispo! These visions, I know that they are from your current show line-up… I must see them... I’m even ready
to vote for the Simulcast of the Week — my full participation is at your beck and call!

Ah, what is that? You doubt that I will sit there for all five hours? Do not worry, O Great Ones, it will be fine! The
glorious Discussion Room in room 3-114 is still available for when I get exhausted from all these cravings for
animated cartoons.

What… what is that, Minna no Anime-sama? There is trouble this Saturday? A… a soccer game?! It… it will be all
right. I will persevere! I was able to navigate around the blocked roads in my automobile last Saturday, I can most
definitely do it again! I will follow the directions from your wonderful security force and make it safely to the
ordained meeting place.

Halloween’s coming up, and Minna no Anime wants to celebrate it with you! This year’s Halloween Party will be
on Saturday, October 29th from 10AM to 10PM, in and around where Minna no Anime normally meets on Saturdays:

Events
Need a breakdown of all the contests, games, and other things that are happening that day? Here are the rules and
descriptions of all the events we’re going to have!

Anime Trivia
Prove that you are the ultimate anime master! Test your mettle in Anime Trivia, a game similar to Jeopardy where there are
10 categories with five questions each. Each question has a point value, and the harder the question, the more points you
get! But guess wrong and you lose points… There will be three preliminary rounds, and those that have the most points in
those rounds go on to the finals round with 15 categories. If you’d like to sign up for a round before Halloween Party,
please fill out this form. The prize for winning Anime Trivia is a $30 Right Stuf gift certificate, so brush up on your
knowledge and come ready to win!

Anime Eyes
Think you know your anime characters? Guess the character that’s onscreen, but watch out — the image starts off super
pixelated! As time ticks down, the pixelation slowly dissolves, revealing the character. The sooner you can guess the
character, the more points you get! But if you guess wrong, you’ll lose points. There will be three preliminary rounds that last
about 20–30 minutes each, and the people that have the most points from those rounds will go on to the finals round for a
chance to win a $30 Right Stuf gift certificate. You can sign up for the round that you want to participate in using this form!

Gaming Room and Video Game Tournament
If you’re feelin’ that itch for more games, the Gaming Room is available for all your gaming needs! The Gaming Room will be in
3-114, open from 10AM to 10PM. Club won’t be able to provide the games, but if you’d like to help out, bring your video game
consoles, PCs, controllers, card games, board games, etc. to the room for everyone to enjoy! There are power outlets in the
room, but we’d suggest bringing power strips as there aren’t that many outlets.

The Video Game Tournament will be held in the Gaming Room. This year’s game is Gang Beasts! Fight to the top of the tournament
list using your silly and possibly epic melee skills, the environment, and luck! To sign up for the tournament, please fill out
this form. The tournament will start after Anime Eyes’ final round at 4:30PM, and the first place winner will receive a $15 gift
certificate to Right Stuf!

Mystery Room
Sometimes we all just need a little break, and the Mystery Room provides just that. Enjoy a nice, quiet afternoon in this
room, away from all the game noises coming from the other rooms. Or maybe do some work, play a game, or watch anime! It’s
truly a mystery, that Mystery Room. It will be open from 10AM–10PM for whatever it is you need.

Dinner Break
Get your grub on during Dinner Break! It will be held from 5:45PM–6:45PM in the Silo, room 3-213. During that time, pizza will
be available for $1 a slice, so if you don’t feel like going off-campus for food, club’s got you covered! Dinner Break will segue
right into...

Pumpkin Carving Contest
Are you the best pumpkin carver there is? Show us your latest design at this contest! Bring your pumpkin by 6:45PM and the
audience members will vote on what they think is the most awesome, coolest-looking design. Lights will be provided. If you can’t
bring your pumpkin to the party and want to enter the contest, please take two pictures of it: one in light and the other in the
dark with the pumpkin lit up. Please bring the photos with you to the party or email them to minna-no-anime@minnanoanime.org.
If you enter, you have the chance to win a $15 Right Stuf gift certificate!

Art Contest
Show off your art skills by entering one of your beautiful pieces into the art contest for the chance to win a $15 Right Stuf gift
certificate! Voting is done via popular vote from the audience. The rules:

Visual arts only.
Cosplay props or anything that is meant to be wielded/worn by a character are not allowed.
Traced artwork not allowed — it’s great for practice, but contests are all about showing off your unique skills!
Officers have the authority to disqualify entries before the contest starts.
Please submit your entry to an officer before 7PM. For physical entries, please submit the actual entry. For digital entries,
you can hand an officer the file from your USB stick or email to minna-no-anime@minnanoanime.org!

Cosplay Contest
Like wearing cosplay? Let’s see your best at the Cosplay Contest! Homemade costumes only, please. Send us a reference picture of
what you are for your cosplay so we can display it on the background during the contest — it’ll help for voting! Email the
image(s) to minna-no-anime@minnanoanime.org, or let us know who or what you’re cosplaying during the party. Voting is done by
popular vote. First place winner will take home a $30 Right Stuf gift certificate!

Karaoke
Minna no Anime has collected many anime opening and ending songs over the years, so peruse our backlog and sing your heart
out to the words on the screen! If there’s a song you don’t see on the list, let us know by filling out this form for your song
request.

Winner Announcements
At 8:15PM, the winners for the contests and games will be announced. Each game and contest has prizes for first place winners.
However, if you participate in a lot of games and do well overall, you have the chance to win our grand prizes: tickets to
conventions! The prizes are the following:

Anime Trivia (First Place): $30 Right Stuf Gift Certificate
Anime Eyes (First Place): $30 Right Stuf Gift Certificate
Cosplay Contest (First Place): $30 Right Stuf Gift Certificate
Video Game Tournament (First Place): $15 Right Stuf Gift Certificate
Pumpkin Carving Contest (First Place): $15 Right Stuf Gift Certificate
Art Contest (First Place): $15 Right Stuf Gift Certificate
Grand Prize (Runner-Up): One ticket to a fandom-related convention of your choice, up to $65 in value!
Grand Prize (Overall Winner): Two tickets to a fandom-related convention of your choice, up to $130 in value!!

And there you have it! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email minna-no-anime@minnanoanime.org and we’ll
get back to you as soon as possible.

Have a spooky scary Halloween,

Phyllis Douglas

[Minna no Manga] Thursdays are a'Coming 10-20-16

TL;DR MnM this Thursday in room 22-210 6–10PM, vote for Simulcast of the Week, Halloween Party on Saturday 10/29 10AM–10PM

Hey all you anime and manga lovers,

This is Brian Kroger your VP for Minna no Anime, and oh boy do I have a pitch for you! Has your week been long, tiring, and full
of midterms? Well, we at Minna no Anime have a solution for you! We have our patent pending (not actually) treatment ready for
you this Thursday from 6–10PM. At our lovely residence of room 22-210, we offer a variety of services that range from amusing
company, board games, anime discussion, and whatever a college student can do in a classroom that is permitted (let’s not push it
too far). So come stop on by to de-stress from you long week of work to hang out with others who share the love of anime!

Vote for the Simulcast of the Week
Every normal Saturday meeting we give the officers a break and let the members of Minna no Anime pick the first show for us. We
have dubbed this practice the “Simulcast of the Week” and it usually features anime that are running in the current season
starting with the first episode of these various shows. So if you want your voice to be heard, click on this link and vote for the
show you want to watch.

Halloween Party: Saturday 10/29 from 10AM to 10PM
The big event is almost here! So in less than 2 weeks, Minna no Anime will throw our annual Halloween Party. At this party we
will have a video game tournament, a cosplay contest, Anime Eyes, Anime Trivia, and more! We even have prizes for the people
who are super good at doing any of the competitions we will be having (get those competitive spirits roaring).

It’s ‘a me,

Brian Kroger

Rant
Having four classes which all assign weekly homework sucks and I have little time to actually do things. Also with me juggling
prep for Halloween Party, being an RA, and school is making my time schedule a nightmare and it is eating all my time. So with
this in mind, I am going to do some more mathematical proofs before my night is over..... Do well in school kids..... (I say as I
fade off into the distance)

DRIP. PLOP. THUD. DRIP. PLOP THUD. The wet footsteps are coming closer to your hiding place. Your breathing hastens and
you hurriedly put your hand over your mouth, hoping to stifle your gasping breaths of fear.

This is it, you think to yourself. You clutch your damp sweatshirt, grasping for dear life, counting off the seconds before you come
face to face with whatever it is that’s roaming the school halls. All you wanted to do was go to Minna no Anime tomorrow from 5–10PM,
but then… the Worst Event That Could Ever Happen happened. You recount in your head the events that lead up to this moment in
time, sunny memories of frolicking along at Cal Poly with nary a care in the world. And then, all of a sudden, Halloween came a week
early: The skies darkened, the undead rose from the ground, and some of your friends started turning into fiendish monsters right
before your very eyes. You’re still not sure how you’re still relatively human, but you almost wish you were a monster… because
then you wouldn’t have to think about what could have been showing at Minna no Anime tomorrow….

Tears drip down your face. It’s only the fourth week of club, you think to yourself. I even voted for the Simulcast of the Week…
I was hoping we’d get to watch the next episode of Yuri!!! on ICE but at this point, I’d be fine with anything!!!

SLAAAM!!!! THE MONSTER IS IN FRONT OF YOU. You look up.

It’s your best friend at Cal Poly. An eyeball is falling out of its socket. You look at their hands and feet, and they’re webbed
like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, slimy with algae and water. You visibly shudder and back up further into your hidey hole,
as if that would actually do anything.

The creature puts its face in front of yours. You can feel its hot, swampy breath bristling your cheeks, stinging your eyes.
It opens its mouth! THIS IS IT, YOUR LAST MOMENT ON EARTH-

“HEY.”

You stop for a moment. Is… is your turned friend… speaking to you?

“HEY. YO. WASSUP.” Your friend(?) is definitely speaking to you!

“U-uh… wa-wassup…” You unclench your body just a little bit and do a small wave. This is quite. Hmm.

“YO, DUDE, LIKE… YOU GOIN’ TO MINNA TOMORROW?”

“Uh, um, yes! Yes, I just finished voting for Simulcast a few moments ago before uh… you started walking down the halls, haha…”
Minna no Anime’s still meeting under these conditions?!

“AH YEAH MAN, I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN! PRETTY EXCITED. YOU GETTIN’ READY FOR HALLOWEEN PARTY NEXT SATURDAY, TOO? I SIGNED UP FOR ALL
THE GAMES, DAWG!” Your friend points to themselves. “ISN’T THIS A SICK COSTUME? IT’S SO RADICAL. THINKIN’ THIS WILL WIN THE COSPLAY
CONTEST, YEAH!”

YOU SWEAT A LOT. “HAHA! Yeah! Definitely! Everyone else is also... dressing up for Halloween a week early too, huh? Haha! Ha!” You
feel a little dumb. Of course people don’t just turn into monsters! That’s something out of the movies, not real life.

Your friend starts laughing. It’s very different from what you remember, a very deep, hearty, slow laugh. “AH MAN, NAH, I WAS JUST
TESTING OUT THIS LITTLE BOWTIE! THINKIN’ THIS WILL BE A PRETTY GOOD COSTUME.” You realize your friend has been pointing at a
very tiny pink bow somehow haphazardly glued to their neck. Well, you think it’s the neck. You’re not 100% sure. The bow looks
like it’s threatening to fall off any moment now.

Your friend’s face suddenly gets very serious. They put their face closer to yours, their mouth looking like an endless sea of teeth.
You had let down your guard. You feel it again, the fear that had consumed you for the past day and a half. This was it, your actual
last moment on Earth...

“...I… I don’t…” You begin to tear up again… It was a nice, slightly scary conversation you had, but that moment has passed. They
put their hands on your shoulders, and the mouth grows wider, the teeth whirring with a high pitched hum and rotating ever faster.

“DUuuDeeE. WAKEeeE UppPP.”

“Wh-what?!”

WAKE UP. WAKE UP. WAKE UP. WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUPWAKEUP-”

BBBBRRRNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!!

You wake up from your bed with a cold sweat, panting. You pick up your phone and turn off the alarm. Scrolling through your phone,
you find out that it’s October 22nd, 2016, and there will be a high of 82°F in San Luis Obispo today.

You breathe a sigh of relief. It was all fake, just a nightmare, albeit an eerily real and long one, haha. You get dressed
because your best friend’s coming over — you guys are gonna hang out before Minna meets today! It’ll be pretty fun.

The doorbell rings and you rush to open the door. Your best friend’s here, not monster-like or anything! Pretty normal, actually.
You leave your place and lock the door behind you. It’s going to be a great day, you bet on it! You recount your weird
nightmare to your friend as you both head out to the car.

As the engine roars to life, your friend laughs, a very deep, hearty, slow laugh. You stop all your movements and your face falls.
You slowly turn to look at your friend who is smiling with very sharp, pointy teeth.

“JUST ONE MORE WEEK UNTIL HALLOWEEN, MY FRIEND, AND THEN YOU’LL FINALLY WAKE UP.”

[Minna no Manga] Halloween Party Saturday, Manga Thursday

TL;DR Halloween Party 10 AM to 10 PM this Saturday, Manga is in 22-210 at 6 PM–10 PM this Thursday, sign
up for Halloween contests, no simulcast.

Hey folks!

Minna no Anime Treasurer Curtis Hilgenberg here, reporting in from the cool, dark confines of my bedroom. This weekend
in case you’ve forgotten, will be Minna no Anime’s Halloween Party! The party lasts from 10 AM–10 PM, with activities
throughout the day to participate in. There'll be Anime Eyes, Anime Trivia, a cosplay contest, a video game tournament, a
pumpkin carving contest, and more! This year the party will be once again in the Business Building, in 03-213 (The Silo), 03-114
(Our usual side room), 03-112, and 03-113. More details are available in the Halloween email Phyllis sent out a few days ago, or
you can check our website. If you intend to participate in Anime Eyes, Anime Trivia, or the video game tournament, you can secure
your spot by signing up here! We can't guarantee you a spot in these events as a walk-in, so be sure to sign up ahead of time!
Please note that there will be a soccer game this Saturday, so if you’re arriving later in the day you might want to allot additional
time for parking.

But before all that, Minna no Manga is this Thursday, 6–10 PM in Room 22-210. There’ll be board games and conversation and
you can hang out with many of the people who will be your bitter rivals fellow contest-goers this Saturday. You should gooooooo.

One last note, since we only mentioned it in a meeting once a few weeks ago I’d like to take my time as email writer to remind
you guys that officer meetings are open for the public. If you’d like to know when and where we’re meeting so they’re not secure
through obscurity, you can sign up at this link or at the link at the bottom of the email. Feel free to show up to get an idea of how
your elected officers operate! Please note that attending any meeting prior to this Saturday will disqualify you from Eyes/Trivia,
since we’ll be doing some last-minute touch-ups on them.

I was going to finish this with “And as always, vote for the simulcast”, but there’s no simulcast this week. So uh, remember to vote
next week! But not this week. We aren’t showing a simulcast during the Halloween Party. That’d be weird.

Catch you later!

Curtis

RANT:

The past few days for me (written Monday):

A full week of school -> Waking up before 7 AM this past Saturday to drive to Bakersfield to watch Kizumonogatari Part 2 ->
Driving back from Bakersfield in time to go to club -> club -> sleeping -> waking up in time for a morning officer meeting ->
seven hour Halloween prep meeting -> spending time after the meeting working on additional Halloween prep as well as
learning enough about basketball to not totally embarrass myself in drafting for a fantasy league I joined to help out a
friend -> doing the draft -> bad news late at night that kept me up for another few hours (don’t ask) -> waking up in time for
morning class -> feeling consistently wrung out through classes all day because of said news while trying to learn things
-> writing this email at 5 PM.

I have a quiz due Wednesday, a lab due Wednesday, homework I don’t yet understand how to do due Thursday, and a midterm
on Friday. Plus a couple of meetings of at least three or four hours each thrown in there for good measure, a workshop, oh yeah,
and my normal course load as well. Like eight days ago, I was thinking “man, I really feel like my schedule is really very empty.
Ah well, maybe it’ll get harder later.” I’m not sure whether I want to punch my previous self or thank him for not adding any
additional commitments. Apologies in advance if I’m abrupt to any of you this week, I’m currently a solid 95% on the Mob Psycho
explosion scale. Hopefully next week will be better. If I die of exhaustion this week, sing Platinum Disco at the Halloween Party
for me!

Fill Out a Minna no Anime Survey One of our members is writing an essay on Minna no Anime. Help them out by giving them some responses from the members through this survey link!

Officer Meetings Mailing List Minna no Anime has a new mailing list! If you’d like to stay up-to-date on when the officers have a meeting, join the mailing list through this link or join using the link in the footer of this email. Please note that if there are any officer meetings today or very early tomorrow and you attend them, you may be disqualified from playing Anime Eyes and Trivia at Halloween Party if the officers are working on those games.

Announcement I will no longer be the secretary or an officer after Halloween Party. Thank you all for reading these weird emails that I’ve written, and I wish the next secretary the best of luck!
